Tips for the DIY

LEAVES: You don’t have to rake all the leaves! It’s OK not to rake up leaves under trees and shrubs and on sturdy ground covers (over time they become much-needed compost). However, must-rake leaves are those on perennial beds (they can cause crown rot) and grass lawns (they attract fungi and insects).

POND TIPS: For those that cannot do a full pond spring cleanup, try to do the falling at a minimum: 1. Do a partial water change. 2. Vacuum any debris that is in the pond. 3. Add Seasonal Defense® to help break any debris that you may have missed. 4. Rinse your filter media with your garden hose.

GUTTERS: There are a lot of ways to clean your gutters; from using a spatula, to blower with a pvc on it, to using a water hose, but the most important tip is using safety. Chances are, you are going to have to get on your ladder to inspect those grimy tubes; hence taking a risk of falling. Make sure your your ladder is on a stable surface, and never lean it directly onto any siding. Unless you want dents. Always, and we mean, always.. have a spotter. It is easy to get busy and not pay attention to how you are leaning way out on that ladder. Unless you feel like trying out to be a superhereo, don't risk unneccessary chances. Have your spotter not only hold the ladder safely, but also remind you when your at that point of possibly making a trip to the ER. Even though it goes without saying, hundreds of people every year visit the hospital for such falls, and many have been fatal - safety HAS TO BE, your number one priority when up in the air.
